WWE chairman Vince McMahon announced today that he would be trying again with his original idea of the XFL, an alternative football league to rival the NFL. This time, the XFL will have no relation to the WWE, and McMahon stressed that this is a separate business venture.
With the launch occurring in 2020, a lot of information has yet to be released. What we do know is that the game will be at a faster pace and will be seemingly simpler than NFL football. He also emphasized
McMahon was also asked about political statements regarding players standing for the national anthem or expressing their political beliefs. He stated that he found that it would be appropriate for players to stand as it is a “time-honored tradition”, but didn’t take any strong political stances. He noted that while people would be allowed to have free speech, he didn’t make a stance on political movements. He welcomes any football players interested, “as long as everyone abides by the rules laid out”.
Unlike last time, McMahon says that there will be no crossover to WWE, and he will work behind the scenes instead of at the forefront of the business.
